Selene's core academic interest is contributing to the understanding of the mechanisms involved in the wide phenotypical diversity present in the animal and plant kingdoms, especially the role of non-coding RNAs in the evolution of regulatory landscapes within and between species. She was recently awarded a L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talents Award. and is a Royal Society visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bath where she is working with She’ll work with Professor Laurence Hurst and Royal Society Research Fellow Dr Hans-Wilhelm Nutzmann from the Milner Centre for Evolution to identify functional characteristics of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in plants.
